In the early hours of Saturday, Newell’s Old Boys face Talleres Cordoba at the Estadio Marcelo Alberto Bielsa as the visitors look to make up ground on league leaders River Plate in the Primera Division.
Newell’s Old Boys form guideGabriel Heinze’s team is not experiencing a great domestic campaign, as they are currently in 14th place in the Primera Division standings. A recent run of just one win in the previous eight matches in the Argentinian top flight has undoubtedly not helped their chances of moving up the table anytime soon.
Newell’s are unbeaten in five home games in the Primera Division. On the flip side, they have drawn their last three league matches in front of their home fans while winning just twice in eight Primera Division games on home soil. Their recent outings at home in the Argentinian top-flight have been incredibly tight affairs, as there have been under 2.5 goals scored in 16 of their last 17 matches.
Talleres Cordoba form guideIn contrast to their hosts, Talleres Cordoba are experiencing a stellar campaign in the Primera Division. Javier Gandolfi’s team are currently in second place in the table but trail league leaders River Plate by nine points.
Talleres are six games unbeaten in all competitions, having recorded three wins and three draws. Last time out, they could only manage a 2-2 draw on home soil against Gimnasia La Plata. The draw ended a run of four straight clean sheets for the visitors.
Talleres have been pretty effective on their travels of late in the Primera Division, winning four of their previous six away games in the Argentinian top flight.
What am I backing?Newell’s recent league form has been unconvincing, while Talleres are on a solid run. The bet I am backing is for Talleres Cordoba to continue their stellar form with a victory.
