We’re into the final furlong now as we approach the last few games of the Ligue 1 season. French football has really come into its own since last August with a campaign full of exciting twists and turns at both ends of the table. Now, it’s all a case of seeing who can hold their nerve. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be an interesting clash between Brest and Reims.
Brest Form GuideStade Brestois 29 were not a million miles away from slipping into the relegation picture last season, and that’s worth remembering when you take a look at just how well they’ve looked thus far. Sure, there’s a bigger argument to be had about the state of the top flight as a whole, but Brest are looking like the kind of team who could really cause some problems in the title hunt for years to come.
Brest had more of the ball and looked far more threatening in their latest clash with Nantes, but for whatever reason, they just couldn’t stick the ball in the back of the net. Perhaps it was the pressure that got to them but either way, they walked away from the game with a 0-0 draw.
Reims Form GuideFollowing on from a top six finish a few years back, Reims have spent a lot of time lingering around mid-table. They have the ability to spring an upset from time to time but there’s still a lot of work that needs doing to the overall structure of the squad, although it must be said that Will Still has been able to have a really strong impact within the club and he deserves praise for his efforts.
Reims haven’t looked themselves for a while now and away to Clermont Foot, that was on full display as they were outfought and, really, didn’t compete at the level we all know they can. They were beaten and humbled 4-1, and perhaps that’s a sign that they’re on the beach right already.
Match PredictionReims are going through a real period of change right now and it seems as if they’re just waiting for the campaign to end. On the flip side, the hosts know that European football next season is at stake, and they’ll want to finish strong. Therefore, we’re going to predict a Brest victory.
