French football’s top tier is back this week as we prepare for another set of electric Ligue One fixtures. We’re entering the month of February and while that may mean we’re still in the midst of the winter blues, the action on the pitch gives us plenty of cause for excitement. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun clash between Reims and Toulouse.
Reims Form GuideFollowing on from a top six finish a few years back, Reims have spent a lot of time lingering around mid-table. They have the ability to spring an upset from time to time but there’s still a lot of work that needs doing to the overall structure of the squad, although it must be said that Will Still has been able to have a really strong impact within the club and he deserves praise for his efforts.
Reims are certainly a consistent side and they’re at the point where they don’t take too many unnecessary risks. That was on display in their clash with Nantes, perhaps to their detriment, as they played out a fairly uneventful 0-0 draw.
Toulouse Form GuideToulouse finished last season with a pretty below-par spot in the Ligue 1 table but alongside that, they were also able to capture the Coupe de France trophy in convincing fashion. That means they have European football to focus on from this month onwards but for the time being, they’ll want to build up some sustainability and credibility in French football’s top tier.
Toulouse would’ve been feeling confident about their chances when playing host to Lens but ultimately, they were far too complacent on and off the ball. They went 2-0 down with a goal either side of half time, and they simply never recovered.
Match PredictionReims keep things close to the vest and while we do believe they are the favourites to take control and win this game against Toulouse, they aren’t likely to have it all go their own way. Therefore, we’re going to predict that under 2.5 goals will be scored.
