Another week of French football is upon us as we prepare for more electric Ligue One action. There’s a great deal of quality available for us to view this weekend, and as we enter the month of March, there’s a lot of excitement in the air as we enter the business end of the campaign. Today, we’ll take a look at what should be an entertaining clash between Nice and Montpellier.
Nice Form GuideAfter another midtable campaign last season, Nice went back to the drawing board in the summer and did everything they could to assemble a strong, competitive unit from top to bottom. Based on early evidence, it certainly seems as if they’ve achieved that goal, but the big test will come when they have to maintain this consistency for months and months.
Last weekend, Nice did a pretty poor job of holding Toulouse in the final third - and they weren’t that prolific in front of goal themselves. In the end, they wound up on the wrong end of a disappointing 2-1 loss.
Montpellier Form GuideMontpellier have done some memorable things over the course of the last decade or so, establishing themselves as one of the most unpredictable clubs to watch in France. In equal measure, though, they’re coming off the back of a campaign that they’d rather forget - and we’re putting that very lightly. Now, after a poor run of form, they’re in danger of something even worse.
In a dramatic encounter at home to Strasbourg, Montpellier twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw - but, given how the game went, we’d argue that they’ll be pretty disappointed not to come away with all three points.
Match PredictionBoth teams are going through a tough spell right now and while Nice, objectively, are the better team, they’ve quite clearly been struggling with their confidence. In our view, the most likely outcome for this game is a draw, but we’re intrigued to see how the game itself plays out.
