On Friday night, Girona and Granada go head-to-head at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi as both teams look to end their 2023/24 season on a winning note.
Girona have enjoyed a dream campaignThe Catalan team has enjoyed a dream campaign, having already sealed third spot in La Liga and a place in the Champions League for next season.
Despite their top-four spot being relatively secure for a while, Girona’s recent form has still been strong, as Michel’s team recorded their fourth win in six La Liga games last time out with a 3-1 victory at Valencia.
The game at the Mestalla also saw Girona score at least two goals for the fifth time in six La Liga outings.
Girona’s home form has been strong this season. However, a 1-0 defeat by Villarreal in their last home match in the Spanish top-flight ended a five-match winning run on home soil.
Michel’s team has also been highly potent in home games of late in La Liga, scoring at least two goals in nine of their previous 11 matches.
Granada is looking to upset the oddsThe visitors will play in the Segunda next season after a poor campaign. They have struggled for form for much of the season.
However, a four-game losing streak in La Liga has now mathematically confirmed the reality of their situation.
Granada’s defence has been the second worst in the Spanish top flight behind bottom-of-the-table Almeria this season.
Their defensive weaknesses have been exposed in that recent losing streak, as they conceded at least two goals in each of the four defeats.
Granada has been woeful travellers this season in La Liga. They are winless in their last 19 games in the Spanish top flight, having picked up just three draws and suffered 16 defeats.
The fact that they have failed to score in seven of the last 11 away games in La Liga has not helped their chances of success on their travels.
What am I backing?Girona has been one of the best stories from the European game this season. I am backing the Catalans to end their successful season with a victory.
