Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come - UEFA Euro 2024 is upon us. The very best nations from across the continent of Europe will compete with one another for the right to be called champions. There are some great teams who are ready to lay it all on the line in the name of greatness, and we can’t wait to see it. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming clash between Portugal and Czech Republic.
Portugal Form GuidePortugal managed to shock a lot of people by becoming European champions back in 2016. Unfortunately, they haven’t quite been able to build on that - but things are looking good right now. This is arguably the best golden generation they’ve had since Cristiano Ronaldo first rose to prominence two decades ago, and now is the chance to seize their opportunity, especially given their goalscoring prowess.
One word to describe Portugal’s qualifying campaign? Impeccable. They won all ten of their qualifiers, scored 36 goals, and conceded just twice. They were easily one of the most impressive sides in qualifying and that’ll give them a great deal of confidence.
Czech Republic Form GuideCzech Republic have failed to qualify for the World Cup since back in 2006. In the Euros, though, they’ve qualified at every available opportunity as an independent nation, dating all the way back to 1996. They’re a strange team to watch with that inconsistency being at the forefront of their identity, and based on recent evidence, we’d say they’ll make another strong push in Germany.
Czech Republic will be disappointed that they didn’t top their group in qualifying, losing out to Albania who actually finished on the same number of points as them. In terms of automatically getting through, however, they did comfortably finish four points above Poland who were in 3rd.
Match PredictionPortugal are one of the favourites whereas Czechia are more likely to be viewed as underdogs, and understandably so. Together, though, we feel as if they’re going to combine for a really fun encounter, which is one of the many reasons why we’re going to back over 2.5 goals scored.
