JACKSONVILLE, Fla. March 6, 2014 — The Jacksonville Children's Commission, a sponsor of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), is now soliciting bids from food service vendors who may be interested in servicing this program. The SFSP (formerly known as the Summer Lunch Program) provides meals to children 0-18 years of age who live in areas where more than 50% or more qualify for free and reduced-price lunch, and who are attending summer camps or other activities. The program is intended to provide a nutritionally balanced meal to children who may be nutritionally deprived during the summer break when the free and reduced-price lunch programs are not available. All meals served must meet the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) meal pattern requirements and Jacksonville Children's Commission-established menus.

Bids are being solicited for service in the Jacksonville area. Approximately 4,911 snacks and 5,834 will be served daily (Monday thru Friday), starting June 9, 2014 and ending August 8, 2014. A five (5) percent bid bond is required and a 10 percent performance bond may be requested. All contracts are subject to review by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
