February 23 Chalking Workshop precedes first ever Paseo Pastel- St. Augustine Chalk Walk scheduled in March



Do you have an interest in participating in the first ever Paseo Pastel – St. Augustine Chalk Walk or “street painting” event the weekend of March 23? Do you know an artist or have students who would like to learn from and work with a professional chalk artist?

Register today for a three hour chalk-art class on Saturday, February 23, led by Lee Jones, featured chalk artist with Paseo Pastel – St. Augustine Chalk Walk. Lee will offer a mix of classroom learning and hands on chalking techniques to interested participants. “In 1994 I was introduced to street painting and I immediately fell in love with this centuries old art form. I have been street painting throughout Central Florida and in festivals all across the country ever since,” said Lee Jones.

The chalking workshop will be held Saturday, February 23 from 9:00AM – Noon at the Fullerwood Center 10 Hildreth Drive, St. Augustine, 32084.

The St. Augustine Regional Council (StAR Council), organizers for this inaugural chalk walk, will sponsor this workshop free of charge. Seating is limited and registration is required by February 16. Paseo Pastel - the Spanish custom of a casual promenade or walk. St. Augustine’s “promenade” will take place on the sidewalks in the Promenade between the City Parking Garage and the Visitor Information Center the weekend of March 22-24.

FRIDAY, 7:00 PM Pre-Event Party
SATURDAY, 9:00AM – 5:00PM
SUNDAY, all day, public walk around and sidewalk washing
70+ local, regional and international Chalk Artists create the sidewalk gallery of art

Approximately 20,000 families, tourists and people of all ages are expected to attend. This inaugural event features “career chalk artists” and will be held annually leading to St. Augustine’s 450th Celebration. 70+ Artist, competing for cash prizes, will create drawings on 4X6 sidewalk areas with the theme of St. Augustine’s Heritage. http://www.staugustinechalkwalk.com.
